What is it about?
Healthcare systems on a journey to nursing excellence will often require nurses to conduct evidence-based practice projects or small research projects. Collaboration between a hospital librarian and a nurse researcher can make it easier for staff nurses to learn and conduct research within a hospital setting. This collaboration saves the nurses time in searching the research literature for the project. Nurses should take advantage of the supports such as the medical librarian in their healthcare system.

Why is it important?
Nurse are pressed for time in their daily care of patients. Hospital librarians can be a critical time saver helping the staff nurse in the research process. The librarian can help with or conduct the database search of the literature using the key words or phrases the nurse and librarian identify.
Perspectives
Many hospitals have librarians but not all healthcare professionals include the librarian on research projects. This is an under use of a valuable member of the research team. Nurses who are savvy will include the librarian in the search process and save time and effort doing so.
