What is it about?

Children's left-handedness has long been the main explanation for the mirror reversal of letters and digits by 5-6 year-olds. Since left-handed children have obvious difficulty adapting to writing towards the right, many people have subscribed to this explanation. But the reversal of letters and digits at this age is part of another problem -- cerebral mirror generalization -- which affects both left- and right-handed children.

Why is it important?

The fact that left-handed children do not write more in mirror image than right-handed children is an important constraint for any theory attempting to explain the mirror writing of typically developing 5-6 year-olds. In particular, this observation is an important support for the theory developed by Fischer J.-P. in his 2022 pdf book: Children's mirror writing: a comprehensive story (https://hal.archives-ouvertes.fr/hal-03897628).
