We were interested in understanding how societies interact with space influenced by historical appropriation practices that generate conflicting meanings in contemporary spatial uses and practices.

Why is it important?
The article analyzes a space of representation in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador, from the perspective of urban archaeology and the theory of the social production of space. This theoretical-methodological approach allows us to identify and prioritize areas of urban resignification that are fundamental to counteract the homogenization and commodification of historical spaces and to define sensitive policies that facilitate the management of historical-urban conflictivities.
