What is it about?
I’m an academic developer, which means that my job is to help university lecturers to improve their teaching. It’s not easy! One of the ways I try to help is by getting lecturers to slow down and take time to think about what they’re doing when they teach, and why they do it. Sometimes they need something to spark off their thinking, so I might ask them to read a poem that’s written from a student’s point of view or a short description of teaching by a lecturer or researcher.

Why is it important?
This way of thinking about improving university teaching is unusual. Lecturers are extremely busy. But now more than ever it is important to make time to think. Isn’t that what universities are for?
