What is it about?
We all want well-trained and well-educated police officers but what does that mean? How much training should officers receive and what should it entail? What about higher education? Should that be incorporated or required? If so, how do should we do that? Should academic knowledge be completely separated from practical skills training? Should one be taught before the other? Should they be taught side-by-side? Should they be intertwined? This article examines a few models from across the western world to see how each has incorporated higher education into police training and adapted to the realities of hiring challenges.
