What is it about?

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) are compounds that have proven to be carcinogenic and mutagenic. The main anthropogenic sources of PAH are the incomplete combustion of organic material. We have developed a new method to assess PAHs in particulate matter in atmospheric air. This paper shows the analysis o PAHs in metropolitan region of a Brazilian city.

Why is it important?

Our results shown that the environmental pollution of Brazilian cities are a health public problem.

Perspectives

We hope to increase the number of Brazilian cities analysed. The results obtained can be used for Brazilian authorities to establish adequate limittes and or control for this contaminats.
