Sustainable hospitality

What is it about?

This paper explains why sustainable development and hospitality (businesses) cannot but affect each other. In fact, this paper argues that based on the fact that hospitality businesses are intertwined with local communities, their contribution to sustainable development of our societies could, potentially, be significant. The conclusion of this paper is that this industry is a most interesting 'playground' for researchers and practitioners interested in contributing to sustainable development.

Why is it important?

The hospitality industry and hospitality as a concept are often seen as irreconcilable with progress in the area of sustainable development. This paper shows that that is not a given and that the opposite could be true; hospitality is in a unique position to act as a catalyst for sustainable development.
