Why is it important?

The work of Roberto Bolaño is an important yet insufficient measurement of the quality of Chilean narrative. This essay aims to broaden the present outlook for authors whose work in changing the perception of Chile as an endless fount of poets.

Perspectives

There is no doubt that the continuing work of Alejandro Zambra and his excellent international reception has amplified interest in Chilean narrative, particularly about his generation, which includes numerous women. It also served to put into perspective the facile politicization of literary history, particularly as it relates to memory.
