Wollstonecraft in Europe

What is it about?

Wollstonecraft's nineteenth-century international reception in continental Europe, as in the Americas, was more widespread and positive than in her homeland of Britain.

Why is it important?

By focusing on her varied reception history, I show how Wollstonecraft's philosophy of women's rights as well as her biographical persona affected the development of feminism in nineteenth-century Europe.
