What is it about?

Production of no-carrier-added (NCA) 97Ru was investigated from the 11B-induced reaction on the natural Y target. 96Tc was co=produced with f NCA 97Ru. They were separated between themselves and from bulk by liquid–liquid extraction (LLX) using liquid cation exchanger di-(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid (HDEHP) dissolved in cyclohexane.

Why is it important?

97Ru is an important isotope having potential medical application. This is another method to get 97-Ru in radiochemically pure form

Perspectives

The radioisotopes are still indispensable and new methods must be developed to separate them in pure form
