What is it about?

This study examines the profiles of the University of Namibia Library collections and the historical dynamics that have impacted it. New programs, schools, and campuses were introduced at a rapid pace which made it difficult for the library to keep track. The role of collection assessment, collection development policy, and e-books were investigated within this scenario.

Why is it important?

Their are various criteria that could help with developing a new library collection such as user input, funding models, deselection of irrelevant stock. From experience other libraries in the same kind of situation can maybe try to avoid certain mishaps that we encountered.

Perspectives

Libraries in developing countries usually only use examples from the long established and relatively rich counterparts to learn from. I hope that other libraries in less developed countries can also learn from experiences their peers with similar backgrounds might have come across.
