Thousands of American individuals die from the non-medical use of prescription drugs (NMUPD) each day. This paper examines stepfamily protective factors of NMUPD among a sample of 902 emerging adults.

Prescription drug abuse is considered an epidemic in the United States. This study examines relationships within stepfamilies that may protect against the likelihood of NMPUD in emerging adulthood.
