What is it about?

There is a lot of anecdotal evidence to support the use of hypnosis in treating chronic pain. This study is a review of the studies which used hypnosis to treat headache.

Why is it important?

Hypnosis for chronic pain is currently under-utilised, possibly because it is somewhat time consuming to administer. However, if we look at it's efficacy as a treatment, the fact that it is tolerated well (there are no unpleasant side effects) and recent advances in imaging which show how words affect the brain, it may be that hypnosis could, in the near future, be offered as a mainstream treatment.
