What is it about?

Developing methods for the detection of glucose with high sensitivity and good selectivity is important. We have shown for the first time that the water-soluble and pH-responsive silicon nanodots can be used for fluorescent determination of glucose within five minutes.

Why is it important?

This is significant because this method avoid the complex modification of electrode or the design of microfluidic chip when compared to heterogeneous assays and the sensitivity is higher than most of the previous assays. Besides, this approach is simple and rapid (within five minutes) and can realized the assay of glucose in urine samples.

Perspectives

This silicon nanodots-based detection is low-toxic and low-cost, which should be relevant for a variety of bio-assay. I hope this article will enable researchers to pay more attention to green testing.
