Why is it important?
Without an empirical element, we are apt to simply express our personal opinions as the truth of the world, as if we knew everything prior to doing any research. This willful blindness unfortunately characterizes some of our more activist approaches.
Perspectives
I had these notes lying around for years, thinking I should never publish them - let other people's rubbish be recognized as such! Why should I bother? I'm still not sure I should have published this. Not many people will bother to read it carefully, I suspect.
