What is it about?

Context effects can be used to override cultural differences in facial expression recognition and communication of emotions

Why is it important?

Such effects can help us design better robots, robotic faces, and other digital interfaces that engage in affective communication (i.e. emotions) with users

Perspectives

It has been posited that there are major differences in how people from different cultures communicate and recognize emotions, with the implication that this means we must build different technology for different cultures. This paper suggests that is not the case.
