What is it about?

"...an exciting and delightful book. The excitement stems from his innovative use of Quantum Field Theory (actually a doubling of such fields) to explain how brain processing can entail our awareness of our existential embeddedness in the world and at the same time our awareness of the aware 'self'." 2001, Karl Pribram, Center for Brain Research and Information Science, Radford University.

Why is it important?

"...the clearest exposition of the theory of brain functions, based on the highly abstract and mathematical theory of Quantum Field. Professor Vitiello successfully carries out this difficult task without a single equation." 2001, Yasushi Takahashi, Department of Physics, University of Alberta, Canada.

Perspectives

The dissipative quantum model of brain illustrated in the book has been further developed in many research papers also in collaboration with Professor Walter J. Freeman (Department of Molecular and Cell Biology, University of California Berkeley, California, U.S.A.) and other collaborators, and is still used in current brain research. Consciousness arises in the dialog of the self with the world. The aesthetical experience consisting of the harmonious fitting of the self in the world becomes a characteristic feature of brain dynamics.
