What is it about?

Genres are dynamic entity realized through the use of releant text types. Text type variation is explained from degrees of interpretation constraint through the text. These degrees are explained within Relevance Theory by showing that every utterance can be seen as an interpretive expression with degrees of interpretation constraints. Utterance types are analyzed from different text types.

Why is it important?

It offers a new approach to the study of text type variation in focusing on how language users detect text types even when the discourse itself seems to present no explicit cues. The explanation is given using the notion of degrees of interpretation constraint within the framework of Relevance Theory.

Perspectives

This study of text type can be extended to writing research for developing resources. The notion of text type is also an important notion in generative AI as text generation often should fit to the given textt type.
