What is it about?

Podcasting is an increasingly widespread digital medium. However, it has not received adequate attention yet in the fields of research and translation studies. This work introduces a translation proposal for Serial, one of the most popular podcasts in the world, as a starting point to raise a debate among scholars and communication experts aimed at creating common strategies and models for translating podcasts. This could pave the way for innovative and valuable communication channels, application in pedagogy, and job opportunities in an unexplored scenario.

Why is it important?

This is one of the very first studies about podcasting in the field of translation studies. Podcast-related figures grow steadily every year, and in a not so distant future adapting and localizing this segment of technology-enabled content may become inevitable. By proposing a practical approach to translating narrative journalism podcasts, this study aims at opening a dialogue among translation scholars and professionals to take on this challenge.

Perspectives

This article comes at an unprecedented time for multilingual communication and the world of translation. Technology has overturned the field of language services and opened the doors to new opportunities and spaces, whereas the demand for localized global content is relentlessly growing. This forward-looking paper provides a unique and trailblazing perspective on how to be ready and offer adequate language transfer solutions in an innovative domain with a promising outlook.
