What is it about?

This is about the characteristics of the V. vulnificus Prx3, an 1-cys peroxiredoxin identified in Vibrio species this time first as far as we know. In addition, this manuscript includes regulation of its transcription via iron-sulfur cluster regulator IscR and biological significance of this novel regulatory mechanism.

Why is it important?

Peroxiredoxin is an antioxidant enzyme and human pathogenic bacteria such as Vibrio vulnificus encounter oxidative stress and they have to overcome this stress to develop illness during the host infection. And the antioxidant should be regulated precisely in response to the stress condition. In this context, this study have identified a new antioxidant enzyme Prx3 which is important for the pathogenesis and presents novel regulatory mechanism of the enzyme via IscR which is able to recognize the stress such as oxidative condition and iron starvation and leads to high expression of Prx3
