What is it about?

The binding site of an antibody could be obscured by a post-translation modification - glycosylation. So any hypermutation of an antibody in the germinal centre that affects a potential glycosylation site could affect antibody binding and therefore could moderate the positive and negative selection processes that a B cell has to pass through.
