What is it about?

This study investigates a type of protein damage that naturally occurs as we age, which can lead to harmful effects in our bodies analogous to a painted wall that is not maintained. We focused on a specific form of protein damage called the C-terminal cyclic imide and examined what makes certain proteins more prone to this damage and how a protein called cereblon helps regulate and manage this damage. When cereblon is absent, the damaged proteins are more likely to clump together, which can disrupt cellular functions. Overall, this study highlights the parts of proteins that are sensitive to this type of protein damage and the role of cereblon in protecting cells from it.
