What is it about?
Changes in the concentrations of greenhouse gases and aerosol particles in the atmosphere both contribute to climate change over the past 150 years. Part of the aerosol influence on climate is caused by interactions between aerosols and clouds. In this study we investigate how aerosol-cloud interactions affect climate change.

Why is it important?
The aerosol influence on climate change is uncertain because aerosols interact with clouds in complex ways. In this study we use satellite data to quantify aerosol-cloud interactions across the global ocean. These relationships reduce uncertainty in the aerosol influence on climate change and refine our estimates of the climate sensitivity to changes in greenhouse gas concentrations. In particular, we find that the global surface temperature is more sensitive to changes in greenhouse gas concentrations than reported in recent climate assessments.
