What is it about?
This is the first research about cattle expanded potential stem cells from cattle embryos. We obtained bovine expanded potential stem cells medium (bEPSCM) based on bovine iPSCs. Cultured with bEPSCM, cattle iPSCs and ESCs can differentiate to embryonic and extraembryonic cell lineages, we called these pluripotent stem cells bEPSCs.

Why is it important?
This is the first research about cattle expanded potential stem cells derived from cattle embryos, evidenced by standard stem cell verification method and chimeras. Precise gene editing is efficiently achieved in our bEPSCs, called genetically modified bEPSCs. And they can be used as donors in somatic cell nuclear transfer. Therefore, bEPSCs hold the potential to substantially advance biotechnology and agriculture.
