A mixed method analysis of overcrowding and ‘underoccupancy’ - and how the space is experienced by people. The paper argues that quantitative measures of space consumption should be culturally sensitive to the local context.

Why is it important?

With increasing inequality, rates of both overcrowding and under-occupancy are growing worldwide. It is important to create a balance so that everyone has enough space to flourish without greedy consumption.
