What is it about?

Rotating detonation (RD) is a moving detonation along a cylinder surface. High pressure is produced by the detonation. Many researchers are trying to use the high pressure in propulsion. The mechanism of RD is complicated. This report explains mechanism of RD analytically.

Why is it important?

As said above, many researchers are trying to use RD to rocket engine or jet engine as the rotating detonation engine (RDE). RDE, however, produces significantly lower thrust performance than the other engines. The report explains the shortage analytically.

Perspectives

Several reports described high performance of RDE. Many reports referred them. The mechanism how RDE produce thrust is discussed theoretically.
