What is it about?
The construction industry in Iraq and indeed in the world is facing a rejuvenation for a new reality of digitalization. The world is gearing toward sustainable development practices and initiatives as well as adopting modern and smart information technologies to keep pace with global paces in other industries. Parallel to the 4th Industrial Revolution, the Iraqi construction industry needs to take measures to accelerate the digitization of the construction industry, which is responsive to the planet, people, and prosperity by increasing efficiency and quality and reducing costs and risks value in its supply chain. The construction industry copes with vast amounts of heterogeneous data, which is projected to grow dramatically as emerging technologies become more widely used. This study examines the level of implementation of digital technologies in the Iraqi construction industry by conducting a comprehensive review of the literature. The implementation of these technologies in the Iraqi industry is still in its initial stages. Using data technologies increases the productivity of the construction industry. There is a need to study the effects of adoption and the role of the industry digitization process in raising the awareness of construction companies while improving performance. This study bridges the gap by comprehending the literature and review. The discussion covered the current state of use, issues, and challenges that come with implementation. Some of the most important challenges are poor government support, high corruption, and fear of sharing data. All these challenges led to the weakness and lack of modern technology adoption.

Perspectives
Technologies have altered the way of designing, constructing, and operating constructions and buildings. Technologies utilization led to augmented profitability, reduced cost, reduced project duration, and enhanced customer-client relationships. The implementation of digital technologies has progressed rapidly. Digitization of the industry is an enduring problem in developing countries. In Iraqi construction industry is still at the nesting stage of implementing digital technologies. There is an immense need for government and private sector support to enhance the adoption. All industries’ beneficiaries and contributors have to make a move towards digitalizing the industry and overcome the challenges that coping with the Iraqi construction industry. This study reviews the trend of digitalization around the globe and focuses on the adoption of digital technologies in the Iraqi construction industry. There are challenges facing the industry including weak internal investment and contractors not complying with contracts and regulations, a high percent of corruption from all parties, also weak government support for projects and organizations. All of these challenges are caused by the fear of sharing data, relying on traditional techniques in managing data and information, and most importantly the instability of the security situation due to the wars and terrorist attacks.
