What is it about?
We have investigated the electronic and magnetic properties of the bulk Fe5GeTe2 single crystal. Our study reveals that bulk Fe5GeTe2 is metallic and behaves like an easy-axis ferromagnet along c-axis with a stronger in-plane magnetic anisotropy compared to the out of plane.

Why is it important?
We have synthesized a room temperature van der Waals ferromagnet Fe5GeTe2, having Curie temperature 310 K. Our study reveals that bulk Fe5GeTe2 is metallic and behaves like an easy-axis ferromagnet along c-axis with a stronger in-plane magnetic anisotropy compared to the out of plane. We established that this vdW Fe5GeTe2 has an intrinsic ferromagnetism in its bulk form. From the temperature dependent magnetization measurements, we have observed three complex magnetic phase-transitions (during cooling). Also, we can speculate that the magnetic domain structure is developing with the decrease of temperature starting from 310K.
