What is it about?

A new optical diagnistic system has been installed on the HBT-EP tokamak device for electron temperature measurement. This article presents the hardware design, measuring principle and preliminary results.

Why is it important?

This tokamak device tend to generate plasmas with low electron temperature (<200 eV), which requires careful choice of filters since thick filters won't work due to extremely low signal amplitude though they might help to reduce the impact from impurities and line radiations. This new system uses thin aluminum and titanium filters, which allows more radiation energy to pass through. The issue is this might lead to errors from impurities and line radiations, which is discussed in detail in this article.
