Why is it important?
Our finding may explain why cancer cell may behave differently in dependence of their location in the body. Moreover by understanding the mechanical effects on cancer cells we can develop more efficient drug delivery system based on nanoparticles.
Perspectives
This work is one of series of studies showing the role of biomechanical cues on the ability of cells to internalize foreign particles. We found previously that cancer cell can uptake particles more efficiently than normal, and stiffer, cells. Also by changing external mechanical conditions we may change the pattern of particle uptake by cells.
