What is it about?
The Overtopping Breakwater for Energy Conversion (OBREC) is a typology of overtopping wave energy converter integrated into a traditional rubble mound breakwater. The OBREC has the same functions as the traditional structures with the added value of energy production. This paper aims to compare between different designs of OBREC and choose the optimum to be applied on an Armored rubble mound breakwater located in San Stefano Alexandria.

Why is it important?
By applying mathematical model, results show that the yearly power production after applying OBREC is 49 MWh generated from mean wave power at that area is about 196 MWh/year, and with OBREC mean efficiency about 20 %.
Perspectives
With regard to the heart of Alexandria, fifteen kilometer of Alexandria coastline extended from Chatby beach in the west to Montazah beach in the east was protected by different protection structures types reference. The government has planned to build different leisure activities and services such as cafes, resorts, and hotels along the beaches in recent years, which are overloading Alexandria's major electric network, According to the previous studies, there have been no studies of wave energy converters being applied to any existing breakwater in Alexandria, hence the goal of this paper is to apply WEC to one of Alexandria's existing breakwaters
