What is it about?

The surface ligand of siloxane is shown to improve the morphology, optical properties and stability of cesium lead halide nanocrystals. The proposed surface chemisty and enhanced optical absorption have been well supported by DFT calculations. Key features of the product nanocrystals include size covergence, tunable emission wavelengths, high brightness and photo stability. As the color conversion component, a wide color gamut of over 100% Rec.2020 is realized.

Why is it important?

Similar siloxane passivation effect on colloidal PbS was witnessed as early as 2002. However, it is difficult to understand the passivation chemistry at that time. I hope this work could arouse a more general interest in siloxane passivation, extending the role of element Si from microelectronics to optoelectronics.

Perspectives

It's a great pleasure to co-author with Dr. Ma, who has guided the DFT calculcations.
