What is it about?
Titanium dioxide (TO) is a promising material for gas sensing application. Laser ablation of Titanium dioxide in bulk into nano-particles for gas sensing application has not been explored. Titanium dioxide in bulk powder form was ablated using Nd:YAG nanosecond pulsed laser (1064 nm, 600 mJ, 30 min) in ethanol solution. Nanocrystalline Titanium dioxide (NTO) was synthesized and used for room temperature clad-modified fiber optic gas sensing studies. The synthesized NTO was characterized and compared the results with bulk TO. Its phase purity, crystalline structure were confirmed with X-ray diffraction (XRD), morphology and size were determined using Transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), UV-Vis spectroscopy was done for optical absorption analysis. The gas sensing property of NTO was investigated using fiber optic gas sensor and found to show good sensitivity and selectivity towards ethanol gas.
