What is it about?

As photonic crystals (PCs) proper photonic band-gap (PBG) in their transmittance spectrum, tuning the transmittance spectrum has been of great interests in many fields of study. This tuning could be performed by several parameters such as the utilized materials, lattice constants, angle of the incidence beam, configuration of the proposed structure. As the configuration of the structure is a simple approach and could play a main role in tuning the PBGs and cutoff frequencies, a new types of arrangements known as MQP arrangements was proposed.

Why is it important?

utilizing semiconductors in PCs and tuning the transmittance PBGs cause the proposed PC structure to be more efficient for applications of interests.

Perspectives

The main applications of PC based PBGs are: photovoltaic devices, thermal and biomedical sensors, optical filters, integrated circuits, solar cells, optical insulators, etc.
