What is it about?
We used different growth conditions for cogruent and stoichiometric lithium niobate samples to show the effect of defects on their optical and acoustic properties. We have shown that different growth conditions and parameters can lead to the appearance of three different modifications of lithium niobate crystals.

Why is it important?
One of the results of our experiments was the answer to the question of how important the existence and concentration of dislocations are in explaining the origin of the central peak and elastic light scattering at a structural phase transition. In addition, the results of the work make it possible to evaluate ways to increase the acoustic quality factor of samples and to introduce optical methods for estimating its value.
