What is it about?

Spin or valley beam splitter is one of the building blocks of spintronics or valleytronics. In this work, we propose a spin-valley beam splitter based on Goos-Hanchen shifts and their difference between spin-valley flavor. The proposed device contains a proximity-induced ferromagnetic from a EuO film, which lifts the spin degeneracy, and a uniaxial strain, which lifts the valley degeneracy. It is found that, the interplay of the spin- and valley-dependent imaginary wave vectors in the modulation regions lead different standing waves and hence different resonant angles for different spin-valley flavor, resulting in the desired spin-valley beam splitter.

Why is it important?

The proposed spin-valley beam splitter lies in the intersection of spintronics and valleytronics.

Perspectives

A revised version is available on arXiv:1611.04722. I encourage experimental works on the proposed device and mechanism.
