What is it about?
It has long been recognized that the loss of efficiency in organic solar cells shows a signature of bi-molecular loss, typically when characterized as a function of excitation light intensity. Based on the experience with OLEDs the loss was assigned to the diffusion limited electron-hole recombination (Langevin). We show that it is more likely that in most situation the bi-molecular loss is due to exciton-charge "collision" that results in a process similar to Auger recombination.

Why is it important?
Solves the puzzle of why Langevin model is valid for bulk heterojunction solar cells. It is not! It simply has a signature that is similar to that of the real process. Exciton-charge collision and exciton annihilation.
