What is it about?

Light is trapped in a 3D resonator that can be used to transfer selected light frequencies between different on-chip optical networks.

Why is it important?

Most photonic filters are only planar like silicon ring resonators or non integratable if they are not. Rolled-up microcavities allow integrated fabrication and an out of plane light confinement. This could be used to couple photonic networks on stacked layers in three dimensional chips.
