What is it about?

Transition to turbulence begins with instability. At the initial stage, when amplitudes of instability waves are small, their growth is described by simple linear theory. But their finite-amplitude evolution can be studied only by laboratory experiments or numerical simulation. In the paper, the transition between these stages is analytically described. And we can see how some of structures and features of Holmboe waves observed in simulations and experiments appear and begin to develop.
