What is it about?

We use out of equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations to study the isomerization-induced massive mass transport observed in azobenzene containing materials. We show that the local diffusion increase at the beginning of the effect is due to an isomerization-induced cage breaking mechanism.

Why is it important?

This result is important to understand the still unsolved problem of the macroscopic SRG formation with small stimuli. It also creates a link with another important unsolved problem: the glass-transition mechanism.
