What is it about?

This work is about how to accurately measure the elastic property of a nanobelt-like one dimensional structure by indentation.

Why is it important?

Because the nanobelt-like structure is flexible and it bends when indented, the bending of the nanostructure can significantly influence our interpretation on the experimental data of indentation, which leads to the wrongful evaluation of the mechanical properties of a nanostructure.

Perspectives

The model can help the experimental researchers to more accurately evaluate the nanobelt mechanical properties. As stated in the paper, there are various and significantly different measured data for the nanobelt of the same material. The reasons can be that the nanobelt really has different properties due to its size and fabrication process. While, it is also quite possible the model the researchers used is wrong/
