What is it about?
This study attempts to examine the potential for plant biomass and vegetation diversity in different types of dryland use in Aceh Besar Regency, Indonesia. The evaluation study of plant biomass potential was tested on Aceh Besar, which has 12 different land use types. These were limited to dry land covering an area of 239,439.63 hectares. The observation points for measuring vegetation and biomass for each land use were selected using a purposeful sampling method referring to maps created as sampling points representing 12 of the land use types. The potential of plant biomass in primary forests is 501.54 tons ha−1, which is higher than that in other types of dry land use. Environmental factors play a very important role in efforts to monitor plant diversity, large diameter trees, composition, and dynamics of forest biomass in primary forests. Measures of biodiversity included tree species richness and abundance, growth form variability, resource use strategies, and evolutionary lineage diversity. Biodiversity is a multifaceted and complex concept. With the most common types of bare land use, there was a corresponding decrease in plant biomass and land cover. Land cover changes affect the population index and diversity of mesofauna and soil litter.
