What is it about?

To understand global research trends on bovine anaplasmosis, a bibliometric analysis (a method of studying scientific publications) was conducted. Data was collected from the Scopus database in December 2022 and analyzed using specialized software (R version 4.2.2). The study reviewed 1,015 publications from 1911 to 2022, covering various types of research papers. The findings showed that research on bovine anaplasmosis has grown significantly, especially in the United States and Brazil. In these countries, research papers had higher citation rates, meaning they were frequently referenced by other scientists. The most important journals publishing this research were the American Journal of Veterinary Research, Infection and Immunity, and Veterinary Parasitology. However, despite the global increase in studies on bovine anaplasmosis, there is still very little research on this disease in ASEAN countries. This highlights the need for more studies in this region. In conclusion, this research helps us understand where and how bovine anaplasmosis is being studied. It also suggests that stronger collaborations between well-established research institutions and those in underrepresented regions could help improve disease control and prevention strategies worldwide.

Why is it important?

This study is important because bovine anaplasmosis is a serious disease that affects cattle, causing health problems like anaemia, jaundice, and weight loss, which lead to huge economic losses for farmers and the livestock industry. By analyzing global research on this disease, the study helps identify which countries are leading in research, which journals publish the most important findings, and where research is lacking—especially in ASEAN countries. Understanding these trends can encourage more research in underrepresented regions, promote collaborations between scientists, and ultimately help develop better strategies to prevent and control the disease, improving cattle health and protecting farmers’ livelihoods.

Perspectives

This research provides a global overview of bovine anaplasmosis studies, serving as a valuable reference for scientists, researchers, and postgraduate students in the field. It helps identify key research trends, highlight gaps in knowledge, and support future studies aimed at improving control and prevention of bovine anaplasmosis
