What is it about?

Climate change exacerbates the intensity of tropical cyclones and accelerates sea level rise, amplifying flood risks for coastal cities. In this context, precise prediction of storm tide inundation in urban coastal areas becomes imperative. This study develops a storm tide inundation model for coastal cities, grounded in the two-dimensional NS shallow water equations, and applies it to Macau. By simulating sea level rise scenarios of 0.5 meters and 1 meter, it forecasts the potential inundation impact of Typhoon Hato (2017) on Macau.

Why is it important?

We have developed the OUC-CUFM (Ocean University of China - Coastal Urban Flood Model), a tool designed to predict flood inundation in coastal cities under the influence of climate change, offering profound significance for urban disaster prevention and mitigation.
