What is it about?
Reviewing why something fails helps to determine how to improve it and address key areas that require either newer materials, redesign, a better understanding of the application conditions, and/or help the user to achieve improved results in their process capability.

Why is it important?
As processing temperatures rise due to the application (like hypersonic, turbine blades) having different metal matrix alloys, temperature sensing systems can fail if the incorrect materials are used to assemble them. Life and performance is also impacted and can contribute to failures in the products being processed. This causes increased manufacturing costs, customer dissatisfaction, and loss of product
Perspectives
This research effort provided an opportunity to address failures that occurred over the past 3-5 years that could not be easily explained or addressed. It confirmed assumptions, based on observations and helped to redesign these systems to make them more robust. In-field results of the redesigned systems confirmed the DOEs of these failure mechanisms and corrected the failures observed.
