What is it about?
This review explores the influences that carbon nanoparticles (nanotubes, graphene, nanodiamond, etc.) have on the thermal transport properties of materials, with a strong focus on thermoelectric materials. It explores the relevant theoretical aspects of thermal conductivity for carbon nanocomposites and presents many experimental examples that highlight the range of influences carbon nanoparticles have on the thermal transport properties of materials.

Why is it important?
Thermal transport on the nanoscale is a slowly maturing field. With many technologies being engineered on the nanoscale, understanding thermal transport on this scale is critical. For example, carbon nanoparticles are widely utilized to manipulate heat transfer in various material classes. In particular, thermoelectric materials have benefitted greatly from compositing with carbon nanoparticles due to their influence on thermal conductivity. Currently, the underlying physics mediating thermal transport in these materials is not well understood. This work provides an overview of the current state of the literature and contributes critical insights for the advancement of thermal property material design.
