What is it about?

Most types of maligant tumor cells can invade into blood vessels so that they can form a/some secondary tumor(s). However the ratio is quite low to survive the changing environment of blood circulation. We show here that fluid shear force of blood flow can promote Natural Killer cells' killing ability against tumor cells.

Why is it important?

We find a promotive role of mechanic force on NK cell's anti-tumor cell activity through its mechano-sensitive receptor NKG2D. This may provide new strategy for NK cell-based immunotheropies anginst cancer.

Perspectives

This work found that more tumor cells in the blood were killed by natural killer cells because of shear force. However, we still have little knowledge about how a subpopulation of tumor cells survives blood circulation. And that is what we are gonna find out next.
