What is it about?
New strict conditions are obtained, the fulfilment of which allows effective (resonant) interaction of waves with particles. It is shown that the known conditions of cyclotron resonances are strictly valid in rather limited cases. Namely, in the case when the intensity of an electromagnetic wave can be neglected and the autoresonance conditions are satisfied, or the dynamics is nonrelativistic. In other cases, it is necessary to take into account the conditions given in the work. The conditions for resonant acceleration of charged particles by the field of transverse electromagnetic waves in vacuum without an external magnetic field are found in the work

Why is it important?
The importance of the results is determined by two reasons: 1. Conditions are found for a huge number of new resonances in wave-particle interactions. In particular, the conditions for resonant acceleration of charged particles in vacuum by the fields of transverse waves without an external magnetic field are found. 2. It is necessary to be careful when using the known (familiar) conditions of cyclotron resonances. Their applicability is severely limited.
Perspectives
Potentially, the obtained results can be used to create new types of radiation sources and new types of accelerators. In addition, perhaps these results will help to understand some of the features of known sources. For example, such as masers on cyclotron resonances. They can be used for cyclotron plasma heating.
