Why is it important?

This article introduces one new methodology of data-driven stability analysis via the superposition of 2D reduced-order modes (SROM) for the purpose of performing modal analysis and stability predictions of 3D flow-induced vibration. This method and its further development are of considerable practical implication for engineering problems. It enables fast stability analysis of elastic structures submerged in non-uniform flows, such as helicopter wings, submarine cables, wind turbine blades, etc.
