What is it about?

Magnonic devices, which take advantage of the versatility of spin waves, are anticipated to be a propitious alternative for efficient signal processing. In this communication, we present a model that allow to efficiently map the near-field diffraction pattern of spin waves in out-of-plane magnetized thin films, from arbitrary geometries of excitation field.

Why is it important?

Our method allows to simulate efficiently in the linear regime the magnons diffraction patterns in perpendicularly magnetized film for any geometry of excitation field. It reproduces quantitatively with an error of less than 1% the corresponding micromagnetic simulations with a substantial gain of time (3000 times faster). This model therefore constitutes a benchmarking tool to explore magnon beamforming as well as magnons interferometry.

Perspectives

This publication convey a method that can and will be extended to in-plane magnetized films for which the dispersion relations are anisotropic, leading to caustic effect. This method will be readily implemented to identify suitable antenna design for the excitation of caustic spin wave beams.
